I actually wrote something about supported decision-making for the National Autistic Taskforce as part of a project. Very interesting topic. If you don’t mind I’ll link it here in case anyone is interested:
Hope that’s OK with the admins, feel free to delete if not.
I’m not aware of any other training that might be available on this at the moment. If you needed further information or advice on a particular issue, it might be worth contacting the Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland on their Advice Line number: 0800 389 6809
They’re both really good resources. I was already aware of the MWC Guide by Jill Stavert which is great. The IRISS article is really good as well and obviously a lot shorter - thanks for the link.
There was a good project in Australia trialling robustly embedding SDM in a service with very positive results.
The republic of Ireland have done their best to comply with UNCRPD Article 12 in the Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act 2015, making supported decision making central to their care system where there are any issues around capacity. It’s even set up a statutory body the Decision Support Service. I haven’t looked into it in much detail yet.
