Being forced to change to option 2

Is anyone here been put under pressure to change to option 2 . Currently we are using option 1 . I do think it’s a ploy to force more unpaid care. I support my daughter and like the freedom of option 1. The SW is trying to move us to option 2 but I know it will mean gaps in cover. What is the experience of anyone else?

Hi Beth,
Thanks you for your post and question.

I don’t know if the Social Worker has any reason for encouraging you to change to an Option 2 arrangement? If there was some advantage or benefit to you and your daughter, then it might be helpful to understand what this would be.

The SDS Statutory Guidance has some clear information on the duties that Local Authorities have under the SDS legislation. There is a section titled:

  • Duty to offer four options to the supported person (p.11)
  • Duty to explain the nature and effect of the four options and to signpost to other sources of information and additional support (p.11)

You can see details of this information in the Statutory Guidance here.

Hopefully other people might be able to share some of their experience as well.

Many thanks,

Mark
